Setting Sail for Liquid Hydrogen in Shipping

The NavHyS consortium recently concluded its 6-month General Assembly, held on 2-3 July at the ENGIE Crigen Lab site in Paris. This meeting presents an important milestone – marking six months of collaborative progress in advancing the future of sustainable, hydrogen-powered shipping.

Co-funded by the European Union and supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, the NavHyS project is working towards the development of a below-deck liquid hydrogen (LH₂) storage and fuel system, designed for the integration in Service Operating Vessels (SOVs).

Meeting Highlights

The two-day meeting offered a valuable opportunity to reflect on our initial achievements, strengthen collaboration, and align on priorities for the next phase of the project.

Day 1 – Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange

The first day featured Work Package presentations, during which partners shared progress, technical insights, and milestones achieved to date. It was encouraging to see the project’s first activities taking shape and progress already being made across multiple areas. The day concluded with a networking dinner, offering the opportunity to reflect on the exchanges of the day and foster connections between partners.

Day 2  – Technical Focus and ENGIE Site Visit

The second day focused on in-depth technical workshops dedicated to LH₂ storage and fuel system design, followed by a guided tour of the ENGIE Crigen facilities. The assembly concluded with a wrap-up session outlining the action plan for the next six months.

Looking Ahead to the Next Phase

The NavHyS project continues to gain momentum—driving innovation and collaboration for a cleaner, greener maritime future powered by liquid hydrogen. This meeting helped us align our path forward—and left us motivated for the journey ahead!
